{"id":47,"date":"2014-08-26T15:02:30","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T15:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolsociology.net\/SOAN390\/?page_id=47"},"modified":"2016-08-20T22:43:30","modified_gmt":"2016-08-20T22:43:30","slug":"mechanics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/soan390.mcguire-spickard.com\/?page_id=47","title":{"rendered":"Our Weekly Pattern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Class meets twice a week.\u00a0 I shall begin most Tuesdays with a lecture, providing an overview of the week\u2019s topic. \u00a0We will then discuss specific passages in that week&#8217;s readings. \u00a0Thursdays will continue this discussion of passages, ideally moving to discussions of the deeper significance of the material we have covered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before Tuesday\u2019s class, you should:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read the secondary readings\u2014labeled &#8220;A&#8221; on the reading list.<\/li>\n<li>Read the primary readings\u2014labeled \u201cB\u201d on the reading list.<\/li>\n<li>Write an outline of the argument in <strong>EACH<\/strong> of the \u201cB\u201d readings. Note any steps in the argument that you do not understand. \u00a0(Turn these in at the end of Tuesday&#8217;s class.)<\/li>\n<li><u>Prepare two\u00a0questions about the readings that will help everyone learn.<\/u><\/li>\n<li>Read as much of the recommended reading\u2014labeled \u201cC\u201d\u2014as you can.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>On Tuesday:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write your two questions on the board\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">before class starts<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Turn in your questions and your outlines at the end of class. \u00a0(You may modify them before leaving the room, if you wish.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Between the Tuesday and Thursday sessions, you should<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reread <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">one<\/span>\u00a0of &#8220;B&#8221; readings, then prepare a\u00a0250-word typed summary of it.
